This previously very long page has been split into three parts.
Intertidal organisms are best identified from pictures. Three pages cover the most commonly encountered fishes, crustaceans and echinoderms of the intertidal rocky shore in New Zealand.
  • fish: the little rock pool fishes of the rocky shore: blennies, triplefin, clingfish, rockfish
  • crustaceans: the barnacles, shrimps, lobsters, crabs, half crabs, spider crabs and hermit crabs.
  • echinoderms: the sea urchins, starfish, brittle stars and sea cucumbers.
