Help with information
The sea is such a universal resource, offering so many uses and having so many users, that the chance is high you can offer something unique from your own experience. This web site is going to be very comprehensive, covering many issues and simple facts. We need you in order to make it a great site. The medium of the Internet allows us to improve the content gradually, with great colour photographs and contributions by thousands of New Zealanders.

Even if you are not involved with the sea, you may be an educator or illustrator or writer. No doubt you can contribute and help.

At the moment the best way to help with information is to write it up and to e-mail it to: sea.friends@xtra.co.nz

Become a member
The Seafriends Society enables everyone to help in saving our seas. You can become a passive member, paying only your small subscription fee and in return staying in touch with us through our magazine. As an active member you will also donate your abilities and time for the future of our seas. The SEAFRIENDS movement needs many skills, so there is a task for everyone.

In case you work with the sea, your help is obvious. As a commercial fisherman you can provide us with valuable information and make your ship available for various projects. As a captain on a regular route, you will be so familiar with a particular area that you may notice changes, seasonally and permanently. You may even have logged your observations. These observations are important. As a recreational fisherman you will have intimate knowledge of the sea and you may have noticed the deterioration which is rapidly accelerating. Your skills are valuable to us. You can influence others too. As a diver you are invaluable. Learn about the underwater environment and join the various projects that turn your hobby into sea-saving enjoyment.

As a scientist your knowledge is indispensable for guiding us in the right direction. Projects need to be supervised; information about our seas needs to be compiled and rewritten to inform the public. As a writer you can help us with the magazine, the internet site, training manuals, instructional movies and more.

Should you be interested in social values and history, you will be able to help us rediscover our past, so that we can make better plans for the future.

Are you an organiser or people manager? Why not help manage our many projects and enthuse us all? Help us organise conferences and working parties.

Are you near a source of information, such as a public library, scientific library, statistics, maps, bookshop, to name a few, your help will certainly be needed.

Are you in a position to influence people or are you familiar with funding, there may be room for you as a trustee with the influential SEAFRIENDS FOUNDATION.

Donations and Grants
There exists no substitute for hard cash when it comes to lubricating the Seafriends organisation and making it grow, especially in its formative years. Seafriends is a non-profit charitable organisation, supervised by the Seafriends Foundation. Donations are tax-deductible.

Should you be in a position to make a donation or grant towards one of our projects, you will not be disappointed with how careful your contribution will be spent. We are a totally open organisation. In this Internet web site you will find most of the information you'll need to investigate our cause. You can also visit the Seafriends Marine Conservation and Education Centre in Leigh.

Do you have books about the sea that are only gathering dust? Consider donating or lending them to the Seafriends Library. Here they will be of use to many and we will look after them with care.

Are you a scientist?
As you may have noticed, the Seafriends movement is about getting the public involved in matters that until now, have been the domain of scientists. Much of the act of fostering an awareness of the sea, consists simply of transferring our knowledge, in such a way that it becomes inviting, challenging and amazing. If you are a marine scientist with focused knowledge in certain areas, you can help quite obviously: home -- top
